There is no meeting this month. The program for the month is to get together with friends and family and enjoy the 4th of July Celebration.
Larry LePage
Our next meeting will be August 6th. Meetings are held at the Best Western Deerfield Beach. The location is convenient right at I-95 and SW 10th in Deerfield. The restaurant (Newport Café) opens at 5 PM and happy hour runs 5 PM until 7 PM. The last two months a good size group of us have had dinner and drinks before heading into the meeting. Social in the room begins about 7 with the meeting starting at 7:30. A group of 24 will be headed to Curacao for an Over Seas Dive trip June 21st through the 28th. I am finishing my packing right now. In August our meeting will recap that trip in pictures and videos. Well, last night we went on a turtle walk. There were nearly 50 USAers. First it was dinner at Flanigan’s in Boca and then off to Gumbo Limbo for the turtle talk and then the turtle walk. Sadly we did not get to witness a turtle laying her eggs this year as they did last. However, on a good note, a Green Sea Turtle came up on the beach to lay her eggs. Since the green is an endangered species they could not take us to “visit” her. While we were hoping for a Loggerhead, which is a protected rather than endangered species at this point, it was good to know that the rarer endangered species was on the beach and looking to nest. We did go out to the beach in another area and took a look at a couple of nests and saw the skyglow both to the north and the south. If this Green laid her eggs hers will be the 7th nest (or clutch) of eggs for a Green recorded by Gumbo Limbo this season. This was another successful event brought to us by Social. We look forward to this possibly being an annual event. Last weekend John and Kathy Ficarra, our VPs of Local Diving had a group of eleven USAers diving on Tenneco Towers. Our second dive was on Hammerhead Reef. It was a beautiful day on and under the water. Look elsewhere in this newsletter and website as well as join us at our general meetings to find information on future local dives. John and Kathy are keeping us busy diving locally. Hope to ‘sea’ you soon! Glada Blench

Thursday evening, June 4th, USA held its 2nd general membership meeting at the Best Western Deerfield Beach Hotel & Suites.
The new venue appears to be popular with USAers and guests. As the meeting progressed, the room quickly filled to capacity. More chairs were brought in, offering seating for 60 members and guests.
The capacity crowd robustly supported USA's Lobster Pot donations.
USA guest Lureen "The Scuba Diving Diva" Ferretti had the lucky Lobster Pot ticket, winning a beautiful framed underwater scene, donated by USA member Donna Walsh.
According to Donna Walsh, "Sea turtles are doing well in Palm Beach County so it's not unusual to see one when diving." It was appropriate that a print of Donna's original watercolor painting, titled "Coral Reef", was donated the same evening our guest presenter, Gumbo Limbo Marine Conservationist Dr. Kirt Rusenko, spoke about sea turtles.
USA member Danny Michels was the lucky 50-50 Lobster Pot winner.
Our next USA Dive Club event is the 4th of July Fireworks Cruise, South Florida Diving Headquarters at 6:00 PM.
Seats are available for the 3-hour fireworks cruise. Price is $22 for members; $25 for guests. For More Information, click on the link below to see USA's July Calendar. http://calendar.usadiveclub.com Our goal in 2009 is to plan a full season of social activities that appeal to everyone. USA's Social Butterflies, Julie Manhold and Clare Anthon, are always open and receptive to new and different ideas. Future social events include:

We certainly had a very busy June 4th meeting. Our 17 guests had "The Hut" buzzing with activity. Barbara and Sonny Barber visited us for the first time. They found us on the internet. Both were certified in Georgia in the 1980's, are Open Water certified and would love to dive in Australia. The Barber's have already submitted their membership application, and will be joining the Club on the Moonlight Turtle Walk. We look forward to seeing them there.
Former member, Lureen Ferretti, came back to see some old friends. Lureen is a photographer who frequents the Blue Heron Bridge.
We were delighted to see Steve and Evelyn Jurczak attending their second meeting. Steve is a former member and they both like to net lobster and drift dive.
Newcomer, Bonnie Krauss, came to us from an ad in "The Pelican". Bonnie was certified in 1980 in Boca Raton and would like to dive in Manta Ray Bay, Yap. Bonnie was accompanied by "Easy" Jim Stewart, a non-diver with a great sense of humor.
USA member Pat Smith brought her friend, Janette Miller. Janette is a Dive Master and was certified in Florida in 2002. Her dream dive location is Fiji. Good luck fulfilling your dream and we hope to see you again.
We can also thank Pat Smith for bringing Tom Weeks to our meeting. Tom is a brand new diver certified in Pompano this year. He is off to a good start and already has logged 6 dives.
We also met Master Diver, Carolann Turn. Carolann has been diving since 1991 and comes to us from Pennsylvania.
It was a pleasure to meet USA Hall of Famer Larry Townsend's charming sister Sandra Parrish and her husband, Don. The Parrish's were visiting Larry from Panama City and came along to hear the lecture on sea turtles. Don was quite lucky and won a few prizes in our "Lobster Pot" drawing.
Larry Townsend also referred Cindi Smart to the USA Dive Club. Cindi is a Rescue Diver certified in Dallas in 2006 and has submitted her application for membership. Cindi will be a great addition to our Club. We'll see her on the Turtle Walk.
As the night went on, the guests kept on coming! Bradley Petitdos, a co-worker and friend of long-time USA member Kim Whaley, joined our meeting. Bradley is a newly certified diver with 5 dives. It is always a treat to welcome a newcomer to diving and to our Club meeting.
We welcomed back former members, Bob (aka Lindy) and Mary Lindemuth. Tommy Younger, also a former member, rounded out what was a tremendous "guest turnout". Tommy has decided to re-join the Club, and Mary and Lindy will be joining us on the 4th of July Fireworks Cruise.
We hope all our guests enjoyed the fellowship of our members. We thank all of you for your interest in the Under Sea Adventurers Dive Club and hope to see you again. We suggest you visit our newsletter's home page www.usadiveclub.com and click on the calendar button for details regarding USA Dive Club's very active diving and non-diving schedule. Also from the home page, click on the photo gallery button for a glimpse of our past outings. Summer is here.............water temps are in the 80's.................so jump on in, the water's fine.

USA has a new look since relocating to the Best Western Deerfield Beach Hotel & Suites two months ago. The location is excellent; the food is good; drinks are a bargain; the meeting room is warm and friendly. More guests are attending. I plan to make every guest feel comfortable and welcome. At the June 4th USA Dive Club meeting, four previous guests became our newest USAers.
USA President Glada Blench with Joie Matthews, Clarita Carvajal, Jorge Carvajal, and Membership Coordinator Russ Manhold. Joie Matthews was introduced to the USA Dive Club by her husband, USA member Michael Matthews. Clarita and Jorge Carvajal's first exposure to USA was at the inaugural May 7th dive club meeting in Deerfield Beach. Welcome aboard. Do any of you have a boat? The June 4th USA Dive Club meeting broke all records for 2009 with 60 attending, including 17 guests. Another 3 new applications for membership were received at the June 4th meeting. Persons interested in joining the USA Dive Club will find membership applications available by clicking on the link appearing below:
